Anime to Hop into the Year of the Rabbit!

The 15 day long Lunar New Year had come around once again, and this time it’s the Year of the Rabbit! Each Lunar New Year is represented by one of the 12 Zodiac animals: The rat, ox, tiger, Rabbit!, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, Dog (that’s mine!) or pig. Each year the representing animal changes, so the whole cycle takes 12 years to complete. The last time it was the Year of the Rabbit was 2011. For people born in the Year of the Rabbit, they are often seen as the megane characters of the zodiac anime world. They are intelligent, quiet, and very reliable. Some times Rabbits can be a little too quiet and not share with others how they are feeling, which can lead to some misunderstandings. So whether you were born in the Year of the Rabbit or you’re just excited about celebrating the Lunar New Year, here are some anime characters that were (judging by their personalities) definitely born in the Year of the Rabbit!

Lettuce – Tokyo Mew Mew New

Lettuce from Tokyo Mew Mew New, the latest version of the Tokyo Mew Mew anime series, is a perfect example for a female born in the Year of the Rabbit! Quiet, studious, and more than a little timid, this green haired magical girl often has self esteem problems and has trouble telling others what she really feels. This can lead to ner-do-wells taking advantage of her kindness and people misunderstanding her. Thankfully she finds some true friends in the other Tokyo Mew Mew magical girls, and little by little the team manage to draw this loyal and kind girl out of her shell.

Princess Elianna – Bibliophile Princess

Much like Lettuce, Princess Elianna from the anime Bibliophile Princess has quite a few self esteem problems. Quiet and thoughtful, Elianna spends most of her time in the royal library enjoying her closest friends, books! When she was first asked to become the crown prince’s fiance`e, she accepted the position mostly to gain access to this luxurious tome treasure trove rather than having actual feelings for the prince. Likewise, she was convinced that the crown prince, first in line to become ruler of their whole country, could never have feelings for a dowdy bookworm like her, so surely she was just given the position of royal fiance`e as a place holder until the prince could find someone he truly loved. Little did this intelligent lady know that not only would she grow to cherish the prince even more that her beloved books, but that the crown prince had always been quite smitten with her bookish ways!

Kyoya – Ouran High School Host Club

Kyoya Ootori from the anime Ouran High School Host Club is the quintessential megane character. With a menacing gleam of his glasses, he lays down the law for the host club, keeping all it’s members and finances in line. Elegant, reserved, and razor sharp, Kyoya turns market research into an art form. Though he wears a veneer of aloof intelligence, Kyoya isn’t without his self doubts. Coming from a big family of successful business people, Kyoya wasn’t considered competition for his older brothers who would inherit all of the family’s company assets. So the youngest Ootori sibling spent most of his life believing that all his financial aplomb would be worthless. Thankfully he met his best friend Tamaki Suoh. It certainly wasn’t easy, but eventually the vivacious charisma of Tamaki managed to crack Kyoya’s cool shell and show this glasses wearing financial genius that there is a great big world out there, far beyond the limitations of the Ootori family.

Have a Hoppy Lunar New Year!
